Missouri City Power Plant

EOI has been selected by Independence Power & Light (IPL) to transfer the liability and real property of its 87-acre Missouri City Power Plant in Missouri City, Missouri.

EOI was chosen after an extensive, two-year vetting process which included meetings with community stakeholders, local elected officials, and IPL management. Following this community engagement, IPL publicly requested qualifications and proposal packages. IPL made its decision to award the contract to EOI based on EOI's 31 years of environmental expertise, its strong financial position, and its solid subcontractor partnerships.

IPL closed their coal-powered plant in 2015 rather than convert the facility to meet air emission standards. The plant, over 60 years old, was plagued with a number of environmental issues, including asbestos, lead-based paint, PCBs, petroleum, and an ash pond.

EOI obtained Pollution Long Term Liability and Excess of Indemnity Insurance to provide additional protection for the City of Independence.
